First Lynnhaven Baptist Church was founded in 1871, in a ” Bush Tent” near the Little Neck section of Virginia Beach. The church later moved to Nickerson’s Corner. As the membership grew, the church eventually settled at its present site, “2744 Robert Jackson Drive.” Over the last 152 years, the church has had twelve ministers.
Under the current pastor, Rev. Dr. Luther S. Allen lll, the church has experienced technological growth, property acquisition, and site expansion. The most notable changes include the 2017 vestibule and sanctuary renovation, and the 2019 commercial kitchen upgrade.
First Lynnhaven Baptist Church holds a rich history in Virginia Beach. Its current and past members were instrumental in the establishment of the city’s public education system for African- American citizens. Even today, First Lynnhaven or “First Church” continues to stand as an ” Outpost of Faith,” striving daily to make the Kingdom of God a reality within the community.
